Episode 10: Memorial Day at the Oakland Cemetery

This past Memorial Day inspired us to take a trip to the Oakland Cemetery to pay our respects and see a piece of Atlanta history.  Turns out, we weren’t the only ones with that idea.  Founded in 1850 as “Atlanta Cemetery,” it’s the oldest cemetery in Atlanta as well as one of the largest green spaces.  Check out @OaklandCemetery for news and tour info.

topics include:

Racy tombstones, the most popular graves in the cemetery, the many sections of Oakland Cemetery, and a little history.

"unknown Confederate dead"

"TWEET", A Mocking Bird. Died January 24, 1874 (note that the sculptor depicted Tweet as a sheep because he wasn’t able to do a bird).

And don’t forget, one of our guests, Sagan Lampe, has a blog of her own: http://pontoufmakeschocolate.blogspot.com/
